2016 ROLF Free Laptop Program to increase the low income family for digital learning of children in the Bay area


SANTA CLARA, CA- In the smartphone  and mobile computer popular on generation of technology  , the traditional education will face challenge of digital education.  Many technology brands also indicate that promote  children's education development, and let them develop self-learning ability during the  interactive learning.  Indeed, there are abundant resource  of digital learning for students in Silicon Valley.  There are more and more gap of digital learning due to the stand of living uneven, which not all children can own an electronic product.

ROLF President Steve Wang believes that education is the key to end the generational poverty in a family.  The goal of the Free Laptop Program is to bridge the digital divide and provide better learning resources for underprivileged students so that they might have a chance to improve their future lives through education.

This is the sixth year in a row that River of Life Foundation (ROLF) supports the Free Laptop Program.  Since 2015, the ROLF has been working on its annual "Free Laptop for Low Income Students" program in collaboration with Gardner Family Care Corporation.  Together they reached out to low income families in South Bay who have kids in Grade 6-12 and have no laptop computer at home. In about a month, social workers at Gardner helped identify the families in need, screen for their eligibility and refer them to ROLF. Then ROLF completed the verification process and confirmed 30 families as this year's free laptop recipients. ROLF is giving away brand-new laptops- the HP Stream 13 model they are well-designed and lightweight, equipped with 13.3 inches HD display monitor, 32GB hard drive storage, 2.16 GHz Intel Celeron Processor and other competitive specifications, come with Windows 8.1 and Microsoft Office 365.,  This model  laptop can easy meet students' general need for homework.

The Gardner Family Care Corporation is located near downtown San Jose.  They has provided high quality and comprehensive health care, including medical, dental, vision, counseling, and substance abuse services to low income families in Santa Clara County.  Social workers at Gardner care for families at risk and refer them to resources in the community according to their particular needs.  ROLF is grateful and honored to have an opportunity to work with other social service providers in the Bay Area, bringing love and care to the many forgotten families.  We believe that we can bring a bigger impact to our community by uniting together.

ROLF has hosted a special event on Sep. 9, 2016 at River of Life Christian Church in Santa Clara, where the laptops were presented to the recipient families. We  hope  those laptops can  provide  more resource and inspire the motivation  for their digital learning.
